How to measure yourself
You will need a measuring tape and a mirror.
If you are planning on wearing a bra or other support garments under your dress, you should take the measurement while wearing these items. Do not take the following measurements over your clothes.
Bust:
This is the measurement of your chest circumference at its fullest point.
Wrap the measuring tape around your torso at the bust point. Facing the mirror, check that the tape measure is lying snug all the way around your torso and that it is positioned parallel to the floor. Do not pull the tape measure too tight so as to compress your bust and distort the measurement. Where the end of the tape measure overlaps itself, this is your measurement.
Waist:
This is the measurement of the circumference of your natural waist. Your natural waist line will be below your ribcage and above your belly button, and is usually the narrowest part of your torso. If you are unsure, bend to the side and where a crease forms this is the position of your waistline.
Wrap the measuring tape around your torso at the natural waist point. Facing the mirror, check that the tape measure is lying snug all the way around your torso and that it is positioned parallel to the floor. Where the end of the tape measure overlaps itself, this is your measurement.
Hips:
This is the measurement of the circumference of your widest hip point. This point is lower than your hip bones and is measured across your upper thighs and bum.
Wrap the tape measure around your body at this widest point. Once again, facing the mirror, check that the tape measure is lying snug all the way around and is positioned parallel to the floor. Where the end of the tape measure overlaps itself, this is your measurement.
Waist to Hem:
This is the measurement from the point of your natural waist to the floor. You should where shoes that are of a similar height to the shoes you will be wearing with your dress.
Place the start of the tape measure at your waist point and allow it to fall to the floor at your side, draping over your hips. Where the tape measure hits the floor, this is your measurement.
